たとえば,$P(1.192)$を求めたいときは,表の一番左の背景色が薄黄色の列で数値が$1.19$の行と,一番上の背景色が薄橙色の行で数値が$+0.002$の列との交わるセルの数字を読んで,$P(1.192)=0.883369$となる.これは,確率変数 $t$ が$1.192$よりも小さな値を取る確率が88.3%であることを意味していて,偏差値でいえば$50+10 \times 1.192=61.9$を超える確率が$1-0.883=0.117$,すなわち,11.7%であり,学力試験の成績で言えば,100人中12番程度であることを示している.
